Children's activities were on the early agenda for the Providence New Year's Eve celebration known as "Bright Night".
Venues include the Providence Children's Museum and Rhode Island Convention Center were given over to children's activities, entertainment and events in the mid-afternoon Monday.
Bright Night, celebrating its 10th year as Providence's welcome into the new year, included a host of family oriented activities, capped by a countdown to midnight in Kennedy Plaza. Organizers said there would not be any fireworks display this year.
Organizers Monday announced the cancellation of a planned display of antique fire trucks at the Convention Center due to what they called circumstances beyond their control.
