Cranston Public Library is helping bring a little joy to the survivors of the Newtown Connecticut School shooting. Sandy Hook students and staff will be welcomed back to school after winter break with paper snowflakes made around the country, including Cranston.

“I think everyone really wanted to do something in wake of the tragedy. It was really very easy for us to do and we got a great response from the community,” said Cranston Public Library’s Technology Coordinator Corrie MacDonald.

MacDonald says children and parents came in to the library’s children department this past week to create the paper snowflakes. She says many snowflakes were also dropped off by local schools and residents and they now have close to 200.

“I hope just this is a symbol that the nation cares and that people want to do something and that we’re with them in spirit,” said MacDonald.

The library will be accepting snowflakes until next Thursday, January 3^rd. They can be sent to; 140 Sockanossett Cross Rd, Cranston RI or dropped off in person. MacDonald says to check out the library’s facebook page for more information.
